The Turtle Song
Lonesome Miner Trail
April/May 2009
Dedicated to the Turtle Clan:
Jo, John, Maura, and our Queen, Jessica
There
once was a turtle named Myrtle,
And
Myrtle wanted to hurtle.
Everyone
said, “Oh Myrtle, turtles don’t hurtle!”
But
Myrtle just smiled and said…
A
turtle hurtle may be low,
A
turtle hurtle may be slow,
But
if I’ve got the wrytle,
This
turtles gonna hurtle!
In
spite of all they said,
Myrtle
went right ahead.
Even
when she felt like lead,
And
really wanted to stay in bed.
Every
day a little higher,
Every
day a little faster,
Till
one day someone asked her,
Myrtle,
could I hurtle too?
Sure!
She said,
You
know what I say,
A
turtle hurtle may be low,
A
turtle hurtle may be slow,
But
if you’ve got the wrytle,
You
can hurtle too!
One
by one they came,
And
Myrtle told them all the same.
It’s
great you want to hurtle,
But
don’t forget that you’re a turtle.
Stop
to smell the flowers,
Spend
some lazy hours,
Sip
up the dew, enjoy the view,
Then
if you’ve still got the wrytle,
Come
on back and hurtle!
So
now you’ve heard this fable
About
doing what you’re able
Maybe
a little lower,
Maybe
a little slower.
But
if you’ve got the wyrtle
You
might be like Myrtle,
who
looked around one day
to
see a band of hurtling turtles!
